Philippe attends the São Paulo International Groundwater Week
On March 19-22, 2025, the São Paulo International Groundwater Week took place in Buaru, São Paulo State, Brazil. SIPAS, the Semana Internacional Paulista de Águas Subterrâneas, was organized by the SACRE project led by Prof. Ricardo Hirata at University of São Paulo in which University of Waterloo is a partner.
The goal of SIPAS was to present new scientific, technological, and management solutions for mitigating urban water crises. A central theme of the week was enhancing municipalities' resilience to increasing droughts. Through practical courses, demonstration visits, lectures, and educational activities, SIPAS deepens the understanding of groundwater, making the invisible visible and showcasing how these resources can act as powerful allies in addressing global climate change. Philippe gave an invited lecture entitled “The biosphere below our feet: Advances in subsurface biogeochemistry and implications for soil and groundwater remediation”.
