Who is the farmer?
- Mr. A Bao used to work for the Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Jiangsu province. After retirement, he started a CSA farm and has been practicing his accumulated ecological farming knowledge on the farm.
- A Bao enjoyed the self-sufficient lifestyle. He moved from the city of Nanjing to Maoshan Village, and leased the land to pursue the country-style living.
How does the farm look like?
- The farm is located in the Maoshan village, the origin of Qinhuai river. Right beside the farm there is a large pond where they can access irrigation water.
- A bao planted lots of trees around the farm to improve the environment.
- They use fermentation bed to raise black pigs, and fertilize the soil with pig manure.
Other interesting things about the farm?
- Except for fresh products, they also produce a great variety of processed food, such as soy sauce, fermented tofu(霉豆腐), rice wine, etc.
- A Bao’s understandings of current agricultural system: agriculture is not about beautiful or clean farm arrangements, nor hydroponics that separates plants from soil, nor the raising of selective animal species. Agriculture is about nurturing life.
