Who is the farmer?
- Uncle Peng joined the army for military services years ago, after that he came back to Dai village for farming. But Peng was struggling for making ends meet.
- When Zhao Yafu gave lectures in the village, Peng attended and built relations with Zhao. After learning more and more from Zhao, he was convinced to try organic farming. To his surprise, he earned 30,000 CNY in the first year, assisted by Zhao’s assistance in finding customers.
- The profits Peng made have driven him and many other villagers to join organic farming later on.
How does the farm look like?
- Peng’s farm is a typical rural household with a small bungalow, a yard for self-consuming vegetables, and a peach orchard.
- Most of the farming works are conducted by Peng himself, such as pruning, catching pests, wilding, and other works of taking care of trees and chicken. Only in the harvest season, Peng will ask for other villagers’ help to harvest peaches. They will share some of the bad-shaped or blemished peaches among themselves.
- Peng’s main consumers are loyal customers who will come to pick up fruits on the farm.
Other interesting things about the village?
- Peng’s future plan about the farm is to develop agri-tourism on the farm, e.g., the happy farmhouse. He pays great attentions to the on-farm environment, to ensure a clean and safe environment.
- Also, Peng attributes his success to the good reputation he has built over the years. Maintaining the good reputation is an important motivation for Peng to keep working hard and never be lazy.
