About the farm

  • Uncle Du is one of the farmers in Dai village. He is one of the first few farmers who took Zhao Yafu’s advices and converted to organic farming.
  • At the beginning, he also doubted if farming without chemical fertilizers will be possible. But Zhao Yafu offered to compensate him for his lose if they failed.
  • Later he found out that organic ways of farming did increase his revenues a lot, mainly because urban consumers would like to pay much higher price for organically produced food. Many returned consumers trust him and like his peaches for the good taste.

How does the farm look like?

  • My visit to the farm gave me an impression of a typical Chinese rural household. The bungalow was constructed with red-bricks and cement, a hand-made housing style. A small yard was hedged with bamboo fence, on which some vine plants were climbing. Some vegetables were growing in the yard, with orange and white wild flowers in between. The place was very cozy and quiet.
  • Du planted an orchard of peach trees right beside his bungalow, some chicken were resting or running under the trees.
  • Du was proud of his decision of conducting organic farming. He was all happy that his income was able to afford him a fairly well-off life.

Other interesting things about the farm?

  • Uncle Du’s son, little Du, also came back to the village to grow strawberries. It’s a rare thing because most of the young farming generation left the countryside nowadays.
