Sponsored by Engineers Canada, The Decolonizing and Indigenizing Engineering Education Network (DIEEN) is hosting an interactive session where attendees will hear from Indigenous engineers and engineers-to-be from across the country that we now call Canada. Whether in school or the workplace, presenters will recount their journeys in the engineering profession, what support they (want to) receive, and how they make space to be themselves in engineering. This session is a starting point in bridging the gap that seems to exist between students and working professionals in Engineering.
After hearing the stories of each of the speakers, attendees will be invited to join breakout rooms of two of the speakers to participate in talking circles and gather in community.
When 2SLGBTQIA+ communities replicate the power dynamics that we try to eradicate in our world and impose them on our queer, disabled, racialized bodies and minds, how do we move from toxic ableism to disability justice? This webinar will explore anti-oppression and ableism, from disability rights to disability justice as a way to fully support disabled colleagues and employees by identifying power dynamics and taking action today while mirroring what has happened in queer and trans communities in the past.

This workshop will support researchers (whether with small research groups or large research teams) as they develop core competencies in the creation of inclusive cultures in research environments using data-driven, evidence informed approaches. Through interactive sessions, participants will learn about systemic barriers in research and how they limit innovation, creativity and diverse approaches to complex problems. In addition, participants will learn about tools and strategies for identifying and removing barriers to inclusion, creating cultures of care that attract, retain and promote diverse talent and enhancing impact and rigour in all their research activities.
