Andrea M. Collins, PhD (She/Her)

Dr. Andrea M. Collins is an Associate Professor in the School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability (SERS) at the University of Waterloo and the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Dr. Collins researches issues surrounding gender and global environmental politics, with a focus on agriculture, land, and food politics. Her book, Gender and the Global Grab: A Feminist Global Governance Approach (McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2024), shows how gender norms, biases, and expectations shape land politics at different levels of governance and the implications for women in rural communities. The book assesses guidelines developed by institutions such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Bank to highlight essential considerations for developing and implementing gender-transformative policy.

Dr. Collins’ work has also been published in Journal of Peasant Studies, International Relations, Environmental Politics, Global Governance, International Feminist Journal of Politics, Journal of Agrarian Change, Land Use Policy, and Globalizations. Dr. Collins is currently researching backlash against gender equity in international food institutions.
