One of the PhD milestones is to present a lecture on some aspect of your research to the School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability, known as the PhD Seminar milestone. This milestone contributes to community-building and the development of interdisciplinary understanding in SERS.
This milestone is for students who are in their third year or later and are in the process of thesis writing or submission (see the PhD guidelines). Students should present some part of their PhD research and findings in their seminar but are not expected to present their complete thesis.
If there is enough interest, SERS will co-organize a panel of seminar speakers each term. Individual presentations should take about 20 minutes, with time for Q&A at the end, and depending on the number of participants the panel session itself may last for several hours. It is expected that participants will attend the full session. The panel will be open for anyone in SERS and the Faculty of Environment to attend. All SERS doctoral students are encouraged to attend the seminars, especially during their first year in the program.
Faculty supervisors are required to attend their students' seminars and so schedule coordination with supervisors is encouraged to ensure they can attend.
