Ever wonder what it’s like inside a Black Hole? Well, you can find out…sort of. The Black Hole Experience by Age of Union is a mobile immersive exhibition premiering in Waterloo Park for the city’s annual Lumen festival on September 21.

Join the University of Waterloo and the Waterloo Climate Institute for a conversation on how we find trusted information on climate action in a sea of misinformation. We’ll discuss ways to overcome the confusing and overwhelming options for climate action and build trust in climate science so that we can build resilient communities and live better together.

September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On this day we honour the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. Widespread public commemoration and acknowledgement of the tragic and painful history, continued impact, and intergenerational trauma of Canada's residential school legacy is a vital component of the reconciliation process. The University of Waterloo and the Office of Indigenous Relations continue to amplify that truth as we build towards reconciliation. We will also highlight the beauty and resilience of indigeneity, and the strengthening of bonds with allies as we navigate this complex and meaningful day.

XChanges 2024 is committed to dismantling oppressive systemic barriers within BIPOC spaces and weaving together the experiences and ideologies of racialized health care physicians. By highlighting the insufficient support received by BIPOC communities, our aim is to significantly impact students’ mental health, and prioritize their well-being. By including the nine dimensions of wellness for racialized students to learn and understand mental health, we are on a mission to foster a community that embraces the mind, creating an environment where students feel empowered to seek and receive the support they need comfortably.

And research tells us that misinformation is doing tangible harm — to public health, mental health, public discourse, personal relationships, and public trust. How did we get here, why do people believe, and what can we do about it?

Would you like to read a poem you wrote? The Creative Writing Club is hosting a Poetry Reading Night where you can do just that.

The poetry reading night will be held on June 14, starting at 6PM in STC 0010. If you submit a poem, you have the choice to read it yourself or for one of the event hosts to read the poem for you. Poetry submissions and attendance is open to all, so feel free to invite your friends or family. Time permitting, there will also be an open mic session at the end of the event for anyone to come up and read poetry they would like to share.

The Canadian Youth STEM Conference (CYSC) is aimed at students in Grades 9-12 across Canada who want to fuel their passion in the field. Hosted at the University of Waterloo and streamed nation-wide in partnership with Shad Canada, the program features insightful talks delivered by leading experts on emerging technology, an innovation challenge, and opportunities to form new connections.
