FINCAPES is committed to responding to Indonesia's priorities and aspirations for research, innovation, and collaboration to safeguard its most vulnerable resources and communities. Our mission is to promote and catalyze a sustainable and climate-resilient Indonesia by enhancing the capabilities of government agencies, universities, and associated partners in three key areas.

Establishing a Climate Finance Policy Research Center

To support and strengthen Indonesia’s climate finance policy framework, FINCAPES will collaborate with a local organization to establish a dedicated Climate Finance Policy Research Center. This center will focus on carbon financing mechanisms, including carbon markets and offsets, which are crucial for Indonesia’s transition to a low-carbon economy. Key activities of the center will include:

• Carbon Financing Mechanisms: Researching and developing robust carbon financing strategies to facilitate effective carbon markets and offsets.
• Policy Research and Development: Addressing policy research challenges and gaps in critical sectors such as transportation, forestry, and key industries.
• Capacity Building: Enhancing the skills and knowledge of policymakers, researchers, and industry stakeholders through targeted training and workshops.

Addressing Policy Research Challenges

As Indonesia transitions to a low-carbon economy, it is essential to address existing policy research challenges and gaps. The Climate Finance Policy Research Center will focus on:

• Energy: Provide input to develop policies to reduce emissions from the energy sector, promoting sustainable energy solutions, and integrating carbon financing mechanisms.
• Forestry: Supporting the sustainable management of forests, enhancing carbon sequestration, and developing policies to prevent deforestation and forest degradation.
• Key Industries: Assisting key industries in adopting low-carbon technologies and practices, and integrating carbon markets and offsets into their operations.

Promoting Collaboration and Innovation

FINCAPES aims to foster collaboration and innovation among government agencies, academic institutions, and industry partners to drive Indonesia’s climate resilience. By establishing the Climate Finance Policy Research Center, FINCAPES will:

• Enhance Research Capabilities: Strengthen research capabilities within universities and associated partners, focusing on climate finance and carbon markets.
• Support Policy Development: Provide evidence-based research and recommendations to support the development of effective climate finance policies.
• Drive Sustainable Practices: Promote the adoption of sustainable practices across various sectors, contributing to Indonesia’s overall climate goals.
