FINCAPES: Catalyzing a Climate-Resilient Indonesia

FINCAPES is committed to addressing Indonesia's priorities for research, innovation, and collaboration to safeguard its most vulnerable resources and communities. Our mission is to promote and catalyze a sustainable and climate-resilient Indonesia by enhancing the capacity of government agencies, universities, and associated partners in three key areas. This work is led through the University of Waterloo's Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science.

Advanced Climate Modeling Tools

FINCAPES is spearheading the development of advanced modeling tools designed to accurately forecast potential loss and damage from climate change-exacerbated flooding scenarios. These cutting-edge tools will:

  • Provide Precise Forecasts: Deliver detailed predictions of flood impacts under various climate conditions.
  • Inform Policy and Action: Equip national and local authorities with vital data to enhance flood adaptation and mitigation strategies.
  • Protect Communities and Assets: Increase the environmental and financial resilience of vulnerable rural and urban populations, helping to safeguard vital infrastructure and assets.

Strengthening Flood Adaptation and Mitigation

Our project aims to drive informed action to bolster Indonesia’s flood adaptation and mitigation efforts. By utilizing the insights gained from our advanced modeling tools, we seek to:

  • Enhance Preparedness: Improve preparedness at both the community and governmental levels.
  • Promote Sustainable Practices: Encourage the implementation of sustainable practices that reduce flood risks.
  • Support Policy Development: Aid in the creation of robust policies that address the immediate and long-term challenges posed by climate change.

Collaborative Capacity Building

FINCAPES fosters collaboration between government agencies, academic institutions, and industry partners to build capacity and resilience. Our collaborative efforts focus on:

  • Training and Education: Providing training programs and resources to enhance the skills and knowledge of stakeholders.
  • Innovative Research: Promoting research initiatives that address climate resilience and sustainable development.
  • Partnerships: Establishing strong partnerships to leverage expertise and resources for maximum impact.

Join Us in Building a Resilient Future

FINCAPES invites you to be a part of the conversation on this transformative journey towards a climate-resilient Indonesia. Together, we can safeguard our communities, protect our environment, and ensure a sustainable future for all.
