Kudos to Cynthia for Passing Her Comprehensive Exam!
Congratulations to Cynthia Itbo Musah, a PhD candidate in Geography at the University of Waterloo, on passing her comprehensive exam! Cynthia’s journey has been shaped by her extensive background as a land administrator and professional surveyor in Ghana, where her work highlighted the challenges women face in accessing land resources. As an alumna of the Ghana Institute of Surveyors and the Network of Excellence on Land Governance in Africa, she has brought valuable insights into addressing gender disparities in resource access to the GoHelP lab.
Currently, Cynthia’s research focuses on the Environment-Health nexus, exploring how power dynamics influence access to land and water in resource-scarce areas of the Global South. Her doctoral project seeks to use Community-Centred Research to redefine unpaid domestic labor, such as water collection, as a form of slow violence against women, aiming to develop strategies that empower communities and drive policy change.
We look forward to seeing her continued impact in research and beyond. Well done, Cynthia!
