We are thrilled to celebrate Rodrigo Curty Pereira, who recently defended his PhD at the University of Waterloo and is now joining our  GoHelP alumni community! Rodrigo’s successful defence marks the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and passion for advancing equity in global health. His doctoral research, completed within the Department of Geography and Environmental Management and the Water Collaborative Program, explored how communities and civil society organizations can work together to tackle inequities in access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WaSH). His work shines a light on how community-driven solutions can address one of the most pressing public health challenges of our time.

Beyond his dissertation, Rodrigo has been actively engaged in teaching, mentoring, and research dissemination. As a sessional instructor, he has shared his expertise with both graduate and undergraduate students, developing and leading courses on global health and the geography of pandemics. He has also received several notable awards along the way, recognizing both his scholarly excellence and his commitment to making a difference, including the Ontario Graduate Scholarship and the David Johnston International Experience Award.

What sets Rodrigo apart is not only his academic achievements but also his strong sense of community. Within the GoHelP Lab, he has been a supportive colleague and collaborator, embodying the values of inclusivity and mentorship that make this research group so special.

As he begins a new chapter in British Columbia, Rodrigo leaves behind an inspiring legacy of research, teaching, and leadership. We look forward to following his journey and celebrating the many ways he will continue to contribute to global health and equity. Congratulations on this exciting milestone Rodrigo!
