Three students presenting at world's challenge challenge
Women Ambassadors in Menstrual SanitationĀ (WAMS) places 3rd at Velocity's World's Challenge Challenge

Sabrina Li and team addressed Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality, with their solution focused on empowering women through menstrual hygiene management programs that combat the taboo associated with menstruation.

The WAMS program consisted of 3 components:

1. Distributing and selling reusable pads in a community in Tanzania
2. Education workshops that a) respect the values of the community in Tanzania, b) teach women and men about menstrual hygiene and c) empower girls and women by getting them involved as ambassadors so they can raise awareness in their community
3. Getting the women of the community in Tanzania involved in making period pouches, which are used to store tampons and pads. They will be sold HERE in Canada to raise awareness and combat the period stigma. Money made from the pouches will be used to fund the workshops and buying reusable pads for the community in Tanzania.
