This study is seeking individuals living with lupus in Ontario to serve as link workers in a 6-month social prescribing pilot. Link workers will help co-design and implement the program while supporting five participants each in accessing non-medical community services that support wellbeing (e.g., exercise, arts, social programs).

Responsibilities include completing a brief training period, conducting virtual needs assessments and follow-ups with participants, developing personalized wellbeing plans, and tracking activities using simple reporting tools. Link workers will also meet regularly with the research team to reflect on what is working and what needs improvement.

The role runs for approximately eight months total, including training, an active 6-month pilot phase (~5 hours/week), and a final focus group. Participation is compensated ($250 total plus $50/month for data support if needed).

This is a voluntary 6-month pilot study involving about 25 participants who live with lupus in Ontario. Participants will be paired with a “link worker” duo and take part in regular virtual meetings to develop and adjust a personalized social prescribing plan based on their wellbeing goals. The frequency and length of meetings are flexible and decided jointly with the link workers.

Participants will complete surveys before and after the program and take part in a 1-hour exit interview, along with optional post-pilot group discussions to share experiences and learn about results. The total time commitment is estimated at 1–2 hours per month over the 6 months.

The study is not a substitute for medical care, and continuation after the pilot is optional. Participants receive $100 as appreciation, though direct personal benefit is not guaranteed.

Eligibility includes being 18+, living with lupus, residing in Ontario, speaking English, and having access to stable internet and a device for virtual participation.
