Graduate talk - Get that killer job!

For a few months, the topic of graduate professionalization has been surfacing in a variety of forums. Whether on an internal basis, with the University of Waterloo focusing on graduate students to help them enhance their career prospects through the implementation of its recent strategic plan and with the different teams, in particular the outstanding academic programming one, or on a broader basis with articles from resources such as University Affairs or even MacLean's.

There is a general consensus that graduate students have to be better prepared to face the job market, whether it is in academia or in any other field. For instance and just this upcoming week, panelists such as Charmaine Grant (former PhD student), Jennifer Polk (author of the blog FromPhDToLife), Allison Sekuler (AVP and Dean of Graduate Studies at McMaster University) and Val Walker (policy analyst at Mitacs) are presenting at the Congress of Humanities and Social Sciences at Brock University, at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, May 26th on life after graduate school.

The Graduate Student Association of the University of Waterloo, along those lines, has decided to start hosting graduate talks on professionalization and career strategy. Building on the experience of key speakers and in the hope to provide students with a better and a deeper understanding of relevant strategies, our first event will be held on June, 4th, 2014 in RCH - 302 from 4:30 to 6:50.
