GSA Council Winter Update

The GSA Council oversees the academic, social, and political representation of Waterloo graduate students with one representative from each academic department. Council's efforts during the Fall 2018 term were focused on a number of initiatives ranging from formulation of Council policies and procedures to developing political positions and engaging constituents.

Cannabis Legalization

The Cannabis Act, 2017 came into effect on October 17, 2018 in Ontario. The Act provides regulations on use, distribution and selling of cannabis. The University of Waterloo is taking a harm reduction and education approach and will follow provincial and federal direction, focusing on the health and safety of the University community. GSA supports a multicultural UWaterloo

It has come to our attention that a speaking event will be hosted on April 30 at the Theatre of the Arts featuring Faith Goldy and Ricardo Duchesne on the topic "multiculturalism, borders, and identity in Canada". Faith Goldy formerly worked with The Rebel Media and Ricardo Duchesne is the author of 'Canada in Decay: Mass Immigration, Diversity, and the Ethnocide of Euro-Canadians'.

The online ballot is open!  If you cannot be at the Annual General Meeting, then please cast your vote on line to elect the newest members of the GSA Board of Directors.

The ballot will be open until 3:45 pm on April 4, 2018.  Secret ballot voting at the Annual General Meeting, also on April 4th at 4 pm in Needles Hall room 3407.

Short Description

The President is the Chief Executive Officer of the Graduate Student Association. Within the scope of the corporate bylaws and policies, the President has full operational control and responsibility for the Association, including budgeting and spending. The President is an ex-officio member of the Board, and as such is a fiduciary. The President works twenty to thirty hours per week and historically has been compensated at the current TA rate.
