The parental leave and daycare bursary programs at the University of Waterloo have a long standing history of providing a supportive and accessible environment to graduate students. In 2017, the awards received national recognition when the University of Waterloo won the 2017 Canadian Association of Graduate studies (CAGS) Award of Excellence and Innovation for Enhancing the Graduate Student Experience (read full story on CAGS website).
To continue the supportive tradition, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) is happy to announce a pilot project for recipients of the parental leave bursary in 2019. Staff within GSPA and across campus have been busy making baby blankets, booties and hats. Upon receipt of the graduate student parental leave bursary, recipients can now select a baby gift of their choice. Details about the baby items will be conveyed to the recipients by Miranda Bilotta, Manager, Graduate Financial Aid and Awards Programs in GSPA.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
