Update from IRCC on study permit processing time

On May 4 the following email was shared with incoming international students for fall 2021

As an international student, you may be wondering if you will receive your study permit approval in time to come to Canada for the fall 2021 term:

• On April 27, 2021, IRCC updated their study permit application processing timelines for students who are applying for a study permit from outside of Canada to begin studying for the upcoming fall 2021 term.
• IRCC has confirmed that if they receive your complete study permit application by May 15, 2021, that you will receive a decision by August 6, 2021 (in time to enter Canada), for your fall 2021 term. To take advantage of these processing times, it’s very important that your application be complete when submitted.
• IRCC may not be able to process your application by August 6, 2021 if you’re unable to submit a complete application because of COVID-19 restrictions which may restrict you from completing application requirements, such as biometrics or a medical exam.
