House of Friendship Leadership Scholarship

About the Award

This scholarship for youth involved in House of Friendship programming will provide the opportunity for up to two incoming students to study in an undergraduate program at the University of Waterloo, while living in residence at Conrad Grebel University College.

The House of Friendship Leadership Scholarship provides funding for four years of tuition* in a University of Waterloo program and two years of residence at Conrad Grebel University College. The award also funds two work terms in a House of Friendship program.

The goals of this award are to develop leadership skills in key individuals who connect to House of Friendship and provide quality education and nurture leadership skills.

This scholarship was established through funding by the Lyle S Hallman Foundation in 2022.

This Award is given to:

  • Youth who come to House of Friendship programs or services and are taking on leadership roles.
  • Youth applying to the University of Waterloo for their first year of undergraduate studies, starting in Fall 2024.
  • Students who are in good or excellent academic standing at their high school.
  • Students who demonstrate leadership capabilities and can expand this potential at Grebel and in House of Friendship programs.

What you need to provide:

  1. You will need to provide two letters of reference from a teacher, guidance counsellor, coach, employer, or a community service leader in a program you work or volunteer with.
  2. Upload a midterm transcript/report card from the current year.
  3. Write a one-page letter that shows us how you have been involved in House of Friendship programs. Also note your interest in leadership and how you anticipate being involved in the residence life at Conrad Grebel University College at the University of Waterloo. Tell us about yourself, your background and ways you enjoy volunteering.
  4. Finally, upload a current resume where you list your leadership experiences, such as school, community centres, church/faith communities, camps and other informal experiences.

Deadlines

  1. Apply to the University of Waterloo by February 1, 2024.
  2. Submit the House of Friendship Leadership Scholarship application by April 30, 2024.
  3. Apply to live at Conrad Grebel by April 30, 2024.
