Joan Weber Award

Joan Weber

Joan Weber worked in the office at Conrad Grebel from 1973 to 1990 and had significant interaction with the students. She was a welcoming face to students and would often have a quick word or share a laugh. Joan’s work in Grebel’s Christian environment and developing friendships with many students over the years added much richness to her life.

Her joys in life included her family, quilting, crocheting, and music. She played organ and piano both at Erb St. Mennonite and Wilmot Mennonite churches where she last attended. Joan succumbed to a fight with cancer in 1997.

This award was established by her parents, George and Vera Weber, to honour Joan’s spirit and connection to the students at Conrad Grebel.

Joan Weber

"Joan frequently invited students to her home for hymn singing and refreshments. She was great at expressing mock outrage at students’ shenanigans but secretly clearly enjoyed the crazy acts that are often associated with a student population. She worked in the office back in a time when real mail was important. She was known for bantering with students who would loiter in the office area waiting for the mailman to arrive."
