PeaceWorks Technology Solutions (PeaceWorks) is a company that was founded in 1996 by Grebel Alumnus Nolan Andres. Since then, PeaceWorks has employed other alumni from Grebel and the University of Waterloo and has provided IT services for the college. 

PeaceWorks is a “B Corporation and promotes the values of social justice, community and integrity.” It is involved in peacebuilding by supporting organizations that focus on a shared vision of a better world. In June 2016 it celebrated its 20th anniversary with a luncheon event announcing the establishment of this award. 

Conrad Grebel University College at the University of Waterloo is home to a vibrant student residence and has the oldest peace studies program in Canada. Conrad Grebel is also home to the Kindred Credit Union (KCU) Centre for Peace Advancement which helps to incubate peace organizations. 

About the Award

This award is to support students who are pursuing degrees in technology at the University of Waterloo and who have demonstrated passion for peace and justice issues. The award will be used to retain upper-year students to the residence or apartments. 

The award is given to: 

  • Students who are holding an upcoming one term contract for a residence or apartment space.
  • Students enrolled in Information Technology courses at the University of Waterloo (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering).
  • Students who demonstrate a commitment to issues of peace and justice.
  • Preference may be given to students who have been or plan to be in PACS courses.

Amount: Three awards of approximately $500.
