In 1957, we took our first classes in prefabs erected at what was Waterloo College on Albert Street. That fall we put the first Engineering float in the Waterloo College Homecoming Parade – a model of the planet with the moon and the just launched first Russian sputnik floating over head. From that humble beginning, the UWaterloo Engineering program has been successful beyond the wildest dreams of its founders.  The curriculum and approach to engineering education has changed dramatically and will continue to do so.

50th Anniversary Celebration of the School of Architecture

On June 15, you're invited to a special evening to launch a year of celebration marking the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the University of Waterloo School of Architecture. Waterloo Architecture was created in 1967, Canada’s Centennial year, in anticipation of continued growth and increased demand for design.

As we kick-off the University of Waterloo’s spring convocation in this special 60th Anniversary year, join us to hear from Roberta L. Jamieson, known as one of Canada’s important visionaries and leaders.

Over his 48-year career as a student and professor at the University of Waterloo, Rick Haldenby has observed and, many times, been directly involved in the design of buildings on and off campus. In this all new talk he will weave stories of buildings into a narrative that visits both high and not-so-high points in the development of the built fabric of a great institution.

Waterloo and the Order of Ontario

Waterloo is celebrating 60 years of innovation in 2017, which is also the 150th anniversary of Canada and Ontario. An important part of that shared history is the Order of Ontario, marking its 30th anniversary as the province’s highest honour.  Over three decades, it has defined a community of excellence and innovation that has helped the province grow and thrive.
