The University of Waterloo hosted a welcome reception for fifteen new Indonesian students on Thursday, September 26th, as part of the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA). IISMA is a scholarship program by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to fund top achieving Indonesian students an opportunity to study at a high-ranking international partner university. It is the fourth year Waterloo has welcomed students from the program.

I had an excellent trip to East Asia last week, where I had the opportunity to meet with university leaders, government officials, and others in both Japan and South Korea. It is clear to me that the University of Waterloo is well-positioned to grow meaningful engagement with East Asian partners across a range of research, innovation, learning, and community activities for impact.

Waterloo welcomed members of a French delegation to campus on April 25th to sign a new MOU with the National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology (INRIA). The MOU outlines a new framework for expanding research collaboration between the University of Waterloo and France.

Building connections in Vietnam

Representatives from Waterloo International travelled to Vietnam recently to explore the potential for increased relations within the post-secondary educational landscape. As one of six of Canada's top 13 trading partners located within the Indo-Pacific region, it represents a substantial growth market for inter-university collaboration in the future.

Waterloo welcomes French delegation

Waterloo International was pleased to host the Toronto-based French Consul General, Tudor Alexis, and delegates from the French Embassy in Ottawa this week to discuss ongoing Waterloo-France relations and to explore shared interests for future collaboration.

The University of Waterloo welcomes the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) 2022 recipients to campus. It is the second successful year of this student mobility program and with it brings 15 talented Indonesian students to our campus community.

Waterloo at CBIE 2022

The Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) annual conference is happening from November 13-16 in Toronto. This year’s theme is Finding Balance, a forward-thinking approach to recovery as the international community emerges from several years of upheaval and uncertainty. Various representatives from Waterloo are presenting sessions at the conference including Waterloo International’s Ian Rowlands, Associate Vice-President, International, and Chris Peace, Associate Director, Operations.

Waterloo International is excited to be participating in the 2021 Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) virtual conference which will be running from today until Friday, November 19th. CBIE will be facilitating a dialogue among participants to reimagine community on a global scale and encouraging a consideration of how international education leaders and practitioners will navigate the complexities of a sustainable and inclusive future of education.

With the University of Waterloo being a member of the University Global Coalition (UGC), the Sustainability Office and Waterloo International collaborated to secure a spot on the UGC’s Annual Gathering this past September.  Joined by international partners the University at Buffalo and Universidad Carlos III Madrid, the half-hour session investigating international climate change networks served as the closing panel of the Annual Gathering.  A story about it appeared in the Daily Bulletin (
