Our Lake Futures researchers travelled to Saskatoon to share their research at the Global Water Futures Annual Science Meeting.
Lake Futures Lead Nandita Basu discussed legacy phosphorus dynamics and impacts to water quality in her talk, ‘Beyond the Mass Balance: A Process Based Approach to Modelling Legacy Phosphorus Dynamics’.
In the Ecosystems and Water Quality session, several Lake Futures researchers discussed their work. First, Melani-Ivy Samson presented her Master’s research on nutrient flows across Ontario’s urban/rural continuum. Later in the session, Serghei Bocaniov, a postdoctoral fellow, discussed the role of a large shallow lake in modifying phosphorus loads into Lake Erie. Rounding out the session, Homa Kheyrollah Pour shared her research on climate drivers and chlorophyll patterns in Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
Our Lake Futures HQP also participated in lightening talks and poster sessions. PhD student Elaine Ho gave a lightening talk on a comparative review of freshwater monitoring approaches. John Dony, Lamisa Malik, Ming Han, Haiyan Liu, Hillary Quinn-Austin, Elaine Ho, Zobia Jawed, Serghei Bocaniov and Igor Markelov also presented posters at the conference.
