Detailed manuscript information (based on Ernest Langlois, Les manuscrits du Roman de la rose. Description et classement, Geneva: Slatkine Reprints, 1974, p. 85):

Parchment, measure: 302x217mm, 155 fols, two columns at 38 lines. Beginning of second folio: Lors de ville ou talant d'aler. The manuscript contains the Roman de la rose. At the end, the following lines have been added:

  • Explicit le Romans de la Rose,
    Ou l'Art d'Amours est toute enclose.
    Nature rit, si com moy semble,
    Quant hic et hec joingnent ensemble.

Fair Welcoming accepts the chaplet from the Duenna.

Frame:

Simple gold leaf exterior frame with gold leaf corner pieces. Inner frame is red with a white zigzag pattern. Decorative details on the left and top, and a wavy pattern with decorative details on the right and bottom.

Rubric:

Two lines above the miniature read: "Vesci comment belacueil prent le / Chapel que la vielle li baille"

Background:

A blue background with a diaper pattern (red and white checkerboard and lozenge pattern).

Gestures:
The Duenna has her right finger raised in a gesture of speech, and in her left hand she is holding the chaplet which she is giving to Fair Welcoming. Fair Welcoming's left hand is raised, and his right hand is resting on the chaplet accepting it.
