Steafán Hanvey will be coming to perform his piece "Look Behind You!" A father and son's impressions of 'The Troubles' in Northern Ireland through photography and song at Conrad Grebel University College on February 27th.
About the event:
"Look Behind You" combines Steafán's personal narrative told through song with the work of Bobbie Hanvey, Steafán's father, consisting of prize-winning photojournalism and radio-edits of his interviews with some of Northern Ireland's best known figures. After completing his album Nuclear Family, Steafán realized how his own personal story intertwined with larger context of ‘The Troubles’ in which it was created. Together, this performance integrates the public and private narrative of the conflict in Northern Ireland to engage with international audiences on these complex issues.
About Steafán Hanvey:
Steafán was born in Downpatrick, Co. Down in 1972, during one of the bloodiest years of The Troubles. He graduated from the University of Ulster in Belfast with a Bachelor's in Modern Studies in 1995 and obtained a Masters in International Politics at the University of Helsinki. Steafán's critically acclaimed album debut was released in Finland and Ireland in 2006, and shortly after he appeared on television and radio. His latest album, Nuclear Family, was released in February 2013, and Steafán is now focusing on North American audiences by touring the USA and Canada for the past 3 years.
