This talk, entitled "South Sudan: as seen through the eyes of one of the lost boys" features speaker Jacob Deng. As one of the "Lost Boys of Sudan" Jacob was forced to flee his home country for Ethiopia and then Kenya alongside some 27 000 other displaced children at the age of seven in 1989. His resourcefulness as a young boy through trade and selling of goats made it possible for him to achieve an education and at the age of eleven he served as a translator for medical personnel. In time he met a Canadian diplomat who assisted him with a refugee application to Canada. He has now found a life for himself here and started an NGO called Wadeng Wings of Hope to help other children in South Sudan.
