Mary Lou Klassen, the current Peace and Conflict Studies Undergraduate Advisor, and her husband Dave Klassen will be speaking about the early response teams peacebuilding work taking place in and around Jos, Nigeria. The Klassens lived in Nigeria for four years in the early 1990s, during which time Dave Klassen operated as a consultant for a rural health program with a Nigerian church, work which eventually led to community development by building sand dams for water during the Nigerian dry season and ventilated improved pit (VIP) latrines. Following this, they worked as country representatives for Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in Uganda for seven years. Dave Klassen started as the MCC representative in Nigeria this past fall and Mary Lou will be joining him there this coming February. Her work there will include teaching peace studies courses in a seminary setting.
