Public Talk: Canada's Indochinese Refugee Program: Policy Innovation and Societal Change

When: October 22, 1pm
Where: CGR 2202
Micheal Molloy is co-author of Running on Empty: Canada and the Indochinese Refugee Movement 1975-80, and has 40 years' experience in international and refugee affairs, In 1979 and 1980 he coordinated the Indochinese refugee program that brought 60,000 refugees to Canada. Molloy is Adjunct Research Professor at Carleton University, and he is president of the Canadian Immigration Historical Society.

Film Screenings with Discussion and Q&A:  Beyond Crisis

When: October 10 6:45-9pm
Where: Erb St. Mennonite Church

The climate crisis action groups at Waterloo North and Erb St. Mennonite Churches has partnered to bring this screening to a transit friendly location in uptown Waterloo. The evening will begin with a screening of the  film Beyond Crisis,a meditative call to action that explores what it means to be living in this new era of climate change, as told by over fifty diverse voices across Canada, the U.S., and beyond. Following the film, filmmaker Kai Reimer-Watts will lead a discussion.
Public Lecture: "Gender: But that is what the Church has always taught!"

A21 Walk for Freedom

Walk for Freedom is a global fundraising and awareness event, rallying hundreds of thousands of abolitionists, taking millions of steps, in hundreds of cities all over the world. On October 19, the Walk for Freedom will be walking to disrupt the trajectory of slavery and shake its foundation with our peaceful rally.

Call for Papers! Journal for Peace and Justice Studies


Deadline: November 1, 2019

The Journal for Peace and Justice Studies has put out a call for original manuscripts!

Manuscript submissions should be accompanied by a cover letter containing all contact information and title of the essay. No identifying information may be in the submission itself. All manuscripts submitted for publication must be prepared for a blind review. Articles should be double spaced throughout. An abstract of 100-150 words and a bibliography must be included with the submission. Authors are advised to use inclusive language throughout the manuscript, and to follow the Chicago Manual Style Sheet.

WJES is a new academic journal at the University of Waterloo, with the potential for peer review, focused on the environment. WJES is looking for submissions for their publication. Submissions can be in the form of personal research papers, lab reports, term papers, or field course reports!
