Information for Students | Nanotechnology Graduate Program

The Collaborative Graduate Nanotechnology Program is delivered by the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering.

The program is offered through six different departments, and each one is responsible for their own admissions policies and program requirements. The six departments are Chemistry, Physics & Astronomy, Chemical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Mechanical & Mechatronic Engineering, and Systems Design Engineering.

While each department has its own degree requirements, there are similarities among the member departments’ requirements, including the requirements to complete Introduction to Nanotechnology (NANO 600), nanotechnology core courses (NANO 60X), and the nanotechnology seminar.

Core courses (NANO 60X) are designed to provide the base knowledge and skill set required to prepare students for more specialized courses and to conduct interdisciplinary nanoscale research.

Students who have completed their Bachelor of Applied Science or Master’s degree in Nanotechnology Engineering at the University of Waterloo cannot take NANO 600 Introduction to Nanotechnology. Instead, they can choose 1 additional course from the list of nanotechnology core courses (NANO 60X).
