THINKING OF APPLYING
What program do I apply to?
Our program is offered through six different departments, and each one is responsible for their own admissions policies and program requirements. The six departments are Chemistry, Physics & Astronomy, Chemical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Mechanical & Mechatronic Engineering, and Systems Design Engineering.
Contact the Graduate Coordinator for the department you are interested in applying to for.
What are the admission requirements?
You can find the admission requirements of each program in all Nanotechnology Departments and schools in the Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) Academic Calendar.
When should I apply?
Begin your application at least two weeks prior to the deadlines below to give your referees enough time to submit references on your behalf, and to ensure you have enough time to upload the documents required.
We recommend you upload your documents within two weeks of receiving your Waterloo ID Number so we can begin reviewing your application package.
The Graduate Studies Application is online. The University of Waterloo Graduate Office does not accept paper based application. Only complete online applications following the application deadline will be considered for the requested program.
Do I need a supervisor to apply?
While you do not need a supervisor to apply to research based programs, you will need one to receive an offer of admission. Check out the Graduate Studies offices tips on finding a supervisor.
How do I apply?
Now, it’s time to apply! Everything you need to know about applying, is available through the University Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) application website.
