Graduate assistantships available in 2024!

The NSERC-UNENE Industrial Research Chair program in Risk-Based Life Cycle Management of Engineering Systems at the University of Waterloo was funded for a third five year term starting in March 2015. The program is chaired by Dr. Mahesh Pandey in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and involves both interdisciplinary research within the university community, as well as close collaboration with the major industrial stakeholders and other UNENE research chairs.

Graduate assistantships are available in 2019 for students with specific interests in risk and reliability analysis, life cycle management, and/or structural, materials & nuclear engineering. Current research areas include:

  • Estimation of the life-time distribution of an asset using inspection and surveillance data,
  • Optimum asset replacement/retirement scheduling,
  • Modelling of deterioration as a random process to predict failure probability over time,
  • Derivation of information from a small sample of data,
  • Maintenance scheduling given the life-time distribution of an asset, and
  • Cost-benefit analysis of risk management programs.

Refer to our Research Program page for more information.

Our engineering team is currently looking for a few highly qualified Post Doctoral Fellows, as well as a number of PhD and MASc level students. Financial assistance is available and allocated as:

Post Doctoral Fellow Salary: $45,000-55,000 per year
Graduate Assistantships: $18,500 per year (MASc)
$30,000 per year (PhD)
