Dr. Jyrkama has been part of the NSERC-UNENE Chair team since the beginning in Sept. 2004, resulting in over 12 years of experience in nuclear risk and reliability analysis.

Dr. Jyrkama is an expert in reliability and large scale statistical data analysis. He works with industry’s inspection data and carries out practical risk assessments to support the industry's needs. For example, he has analyzed fuel channel creep data and developed corrosion management models for feeder systems. He is also reanalyzing the value of predictive maintenance models used by the nuclear industry. He acts as a liaison with the industry and assists the Chair in coordinating projects with other members of the research team. He continues to play a major role in organizing training workshops for technology transfer to the industry.

Fernando Tallavo PhD

Research Associate

Fernando Tallavo
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Dr. Tallavo is an expert in large scale computations using the finite element method. He is developing a computation model of fuel channel deformation and using it for computing the risk of degradation with the aging of the reactor. His work is of great significance in meeting the near term needs of the industry for extending the use of existing reactors under the timeline of the refurbishment projects.
