Volunteer with Renison for the University of Waterloo's March Open House on Saturday, March 23.
The March Open House welcomes prospective students and their families, friends, and partners to our campus. Be a part of this amazing day and impact someone's future by signing up to be a volunteer! Let's show them what being part of the Renison community is all about!
When: Saturday, March 23, 2024, 9:00am - 5:00pm
Where: Renison University College and the University of Waterloo
Why should I do this?
By volunteering as an Open House volunteer, you will receive:
- Renison name tag
- Renison t-shirt
- And if you volunteer the entire day: Complementary lunch
In addition, this is a great opportunity to include on your résumé as professional volunteer experience!
How can I help?
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help in a number of capacities:
1. Event Facilitators
- Assist with facilitation of key programming during March Open House
- Key tasks:
- Mingle with attendees
- Assist main facilitator as needed
- Aware of any necessary scripting (will be provided)
2. Tour Guide Volunteers (training provided in advance!)
- Offer engaging and informative tours to visitors of Renison, including residence rooms, lounges, and spaces across Renison.
- Learn tour script and speak about each area at a designated tour stop.
- Share appropriate personal stories and experiences about your Renison experience with prospective students.
3. Greeters, Runners, & Floaters
- Be a friendly first face for students when they arrive at Renison.
- Be available at different entrances around Renison to help visitors locate the Dunker Family Lounge for registration.
- Offer directional support if needed to direct prospective students to sessions, etc.
- Assist with restocking booths and supplies when necessary.
4. Booth Volunteers at Renison
- Help as a volunteer to promote Social Development Studies, School of Social Work, Culture & Language Studies, and Student Experience & Housing at Renison.
- Be a volunteer who is already knowledgeable and has an association with one of these areas prior to the event.
- Answer questions related to the respective department at Renison.
- Connect students with print materials or business cards should they be interested in following up to learn more.
- Encourage visitors to go on a tour if they haven’t done so already at the College.
5. Booth Volunteers at the Arts Fair in Hagey Hall *high traffic area*
- Booths: SDS and Renison general
- Help as a volunteer at a booth to promote Social Development Studies (answering questions about the Social Development Studies program at Renison, encouraging visitors to attend the SDS info sessions) or Renison (speaking about the community and culture at Renison).
- Be a volunteer who is already knowledgeable and has an association with one of these areas prior to the event.
- Answer questions related to the respective department at Renison.
- Connect students with print materials or business cards should they be interested in following up to learn more.
- Encourage visitors to go on a tour if they haven’t done so already at the College.
6. Booth Volunteers at the Student Life Fair at SLC *high traffic area*
- Booth: First Year Guarantee (Residence)
- Speak to the community and culture at Renison. Share information about Student Experience and Housing.
- Encourage students to visit Renison and go on a tour.
- Answer questions about living in residence and our unique all-you-can-eat meal plan.
- Connect students with print materials or business cards should they be interested in a follow-up.
7. Registration Table Volunteers
- Help visitors register to check in and register for the event.
- Hand out Open House event guides and Renison event materials to visitors.
- Distribute swag as a reward to visitors for registering at the event.
8. Reni Moose Mascot Volunteer and Handlers
- Serve as the Reni Moose mascot in the costume, and serve as a handler to help direct Reni Moose to various venues throughout the College.
- Engage with prospective students and show Renison spirit by taking photos with visitors.
- As a handler, support Reni Moose and ensuring they take frequent breaks throughout the day.
9. University College Tent Volunteers
- Be stationed outside and available to provide direction to visitors during the Open House.
- Encouraging visitors on main campus to walk across the bridge to visit Renison.
- Engage with students and be a warm, friendly face to represent Renison.
Will I receive training?
Yes! There will be a general volunteer training and a tour guide volunteer training.
General Volunteer Training
Training will be IN PERSON. This is a great opportunity to meet you fellow volunteers and to learn more about your roles, responsibilities, overall event logistics, and other important information.
Volunteers without a pre-existing volunteer t-shirt (grey), lanyard, or name tag will be provided with one during training.

Tour Guide Volunteer Training
Training will be IN PERSON. Please sign up for a training date and time slot to get familiar with the tour route for March Open House. Training for the general event tour route and an accessibility tour route will be provided.

How do I sign up?
Complete the registration form below. The week prior to the Open House, you will be contacted by a Renison staff member, with more information about next steps as a volunteer.
