I am currently working on two projects simultaneously. The first is a monograph now tentatively titled The Road to Hell: The Radical Precedents of Post-Racial Rhetoric in the 21stCentury. Support of the research for this project was provided in the form of a grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council in the amount of $91,445 (2014 – 2017). The second is a short monograph tentatively titled Encounters with Bean: Contending with White Supremacy in the Antiracist Classroom, an early excerpt of which has recently been published in Writers; Craft and Context. Composed as a race-critical counterstory, Encounters with Bean: Contending with White Supremacy in the Antiracist Classroom recounts the experience of a white and whitely professor contending with her white and whitely nemeses, which turn out not only to be her student, Bean, but also and perhaps especially, herself.
