I am an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Waterloo and the Balsillie School of International Affairs. I am also Acting Director of TSAS the Canadian Network for Research on Terrorism, Security, and Society. I have a PhD in Political Science from Brown University, where I was a Fulbright scholar. I have an undergraduate degree in International Relations from the University of Toronto. I did postdoctoral work at the University of British Columbia.

My research is primarily about national security in a Canadian context, from the perspective of critical security studies. I have also written and published on gender & security, IR pedagogy, and transatlantic relations. My most recent book is Heroism and Global Politics with Jennifer Mathers at the University of Aberystwyth.

I supervise graduate students primarily through the MA in Political Science at the University of Waterloo and the MA and PhD in Global Governance at the Balsillie School
