Anthony Ng

Technician (Sep 2022-Jun 2024)

Research Interests

Prior to joining our lab, Anthony worked as a Virologist at SGS Testing Laboratory in Hong Kong, where he gained experience in research and development (R&D) and ISO accreditation processes, developing strong familiarity with industry standards and quality-controlled laboratory practices.

Anthony joined our team during the COVID-19 wastewater-based surveillance program and quickly became a strong asset to the group. He contributed across the full analytical workflow, including the development and validation of qPCR assays targeting SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern, as well as routine processing of wastewater samples. His work spanned sample preparation, RNA extraction, qPCR setup and analysis, and downstream interpretation of results within the surveillance framework.

Through this role, he developed strong technical expertise in molecular diagnostics, including assay optimization, quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), and the handling and interpretation of high-throughput qPCR data. He also contributed to data organization and reporting workflows that supported timely and accurate communication of results within the broader monitoring program.

With the conclusion of COVID-19 wastewater surveillance activities, Anthony has since moved on from the lab and is currently working as a technician at Velocity Science Lab at the University of Waterloo.
