Work Study Students

Many undergraduate students have worked in the lab through work-study positions, gaining hands-on experience in environmental research and laboratory methods. The two primary positions are Ecotoxicology Technician and Environmental Analytical Chemistry Technician, and while they have distinct focuses, there is overlap in both the techniques used and the skills developed.

Ecotoxicology Technicians gain experience in fish husbandry, exposure studies, tissue sampling, laboratory experiments, field collections, and biological data collection and analysis, while Environmental Analytical Chemistry Technicians develop skills in environmental sample preparation, analytical instrumentation, trace chemical analysis, quality assurance and quality control procedures, and chemical data processing and analysis. Both positions provide students with valuable research experience while contributing to ongoing projects in the lab.
