Technician (Apr 2024-Aug 2024)

Research Interests

Katie first joined the Servos Lab as an undergraduate co-op student working on COVID-19 wastewater surveillance, where she supported sample processing and analytical workflows for SARS-CoV-2 monitoring in wastewater. She later returned for a second co-op term focused specifically on qPCR analysis for COVID-19 wastewater surveillance, contributing to viral detection, quantification, and routine molecular laboratory analysis.

She then completed her BIOL 499 undergraduate thesis project in the Servos Lab on recovery and partitioning of respiratory viruses in wastewater, where she investigated viral recovery efficiency and partitioning behaviour in wastewater matrices, contributing to improved understanding of methodological performance in wastewater-based epidemiology.

She completed her BSc in Biochemistry in 2024, and after graduating returned to the lab as a Technician on the COVID-19 project, where she supported the final stages of the wastewater surveillance program, contributing to sample processing, data generation, and analytical support as the initiative was brought to completion. She has since gone on to pursue further post-secondary studies as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
