Isolating Estrogenic Chemicals in Municipal Wastewater Effluents

Research Interests

Brendan with a brown troutComplex mixtures can contain a multitude of chemicals, each with diverse physical and chemical properties that could perturb biological organisms. Studies conducted around the world have identified Municipal Wastewater Effluents as potential point sources for environmental contaminants. But often cause and effect relationships cannot be directly inferred. The bulk of my research has focused on trying to connect the adverse effects observed in the Grand River Watershed to chemicals in certain Municipal Wastewater Effluents that induce an estrogenic response in fish by applying an Effect Directed Assessment.
