Dr. Ken Oakes

Research Interests

Ken Oakes joined the Servos Lab in 2004 after completing his PhD at the University of Guelph under the supervision of Glen Van Der Kraak. He played a key role in establishing the lab during its early stages, helping to develop research infrastructure, set up laboratory methods, and mentor students. His contributions were instrumental in building the foundation for many of the lab’s ongoing research programs in aquatic toxicology.

During his time in the lab, Ken was actively involved in a range of projects focused on the impacts of contaminants on aquatic organisms, contributing to both field and laboratory studies. He was also a dedicated and effective teacher, known for his ability to support and guide students at all levels while fostering a collaborative and engaging learning environment.

In 2012, Ken left the Servos Lab to begin his academic career as a professor at Cape Breton University, where he continues his work in environmental science and research.
