Technician (Aug 2023-Sep 2024)

Research Interests

Jaycelyn joined the Servos Group after completing her MSc with Paul Craig. She worked as a Research Assistant on the SARS-CoV-2 wastewater surveillance program, supporting wastewater-based surveillance efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her work focused on the processing and analysis of influent wastewater samples for SARS-CoV-2 monitoring. This included sample concentration and preparation, RNA extractions, qPCR analysis, quality control, and management and interpretation of analytical data. She contributed to the generation of wastewater surveillance data used to track trends in COVID-19 within communities and supported the day-to-day laboratory operations required for large-scale monitoring efforts.

In addition to her laboratory responsibilities, Jaycelyn frequently supported aquatic field research activities, including electrofishing surveys, sample collection, and field logistics across a range of study sites. She is highly proficient in boat operation during field campaigns and played an important role in safely and efficiently conducting fieldwork on the water. She also supported BIOL 470 field activities, where she assisted with training undergraduate students in field techniques and sampling procedures.
