Research Interests
Jen Ings completed her MSc at the University of Guelph with Glen Van Der Kraak, where she studied steroidogenesis in the zebrafish ovary and examined how endocrine pathways respond to hormonal signals and environmental contaminants. She began her PhD in September 2006 under the supervision of Profs. Mark Servos and Matt Vijayan.
Her doctoral research examined the effects of municipal wastewater effluent (MWWE) on rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), with a focus on the pharmaceutical venlafaxine. MWWE is a complex mixture of contaminants and an important source of pollution in aquatic environments, and her work investigated how exposure affects stress responses, metabolism, and related endocrine pathways, including hormones such as cortisol and catecholamines, as well as cellular stress responses. Her PhD research was recognized with the Outstanding Achievement in Graduate Studies Award.
She is now a Senior Aquatic Scientist at Minnow Environmental, part of Trinity Consultants Canada.
