Mark Hewitt

PhD (Graduated 1997)

Research Interests

Mark was the first PhD student to graduate from the Servos Lab. He completed his PhD at the University of Guelph under the co-supervision of Prof. Keith Solomon. He is an analytical chemist with a specialization in toxicology. His research focused on the contamination and toxicological effects of lampricide formulations of 3-trifluoromethyl-4-nitrophenol (TFM), a pesticide widely used for sea lamprey control in the Great Lakes.

His work contributed to early assessments of lampricide exposure and ecological risk in aquatic ecosystems, helping to improve understanding of the balance between effective invasive species management and protection of non-target organisms.

He went on to become a Research Scientist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, and we continue to collaborate with him on ongoing projects.
