Research Interests

Mike was the second PhD student in the Servos Lab and was co-supervised by Prof. George Dixon.  His research examined food-web dynamics in Lake Ontario using carbon and nitrogen stable isotope analysis (δ¹³C and δ¹⁵N) as natural tracers to study trophic relationships within the pelagic ecosystem.

His work focused on understanding how biogeochemical processes influenced isotope signatures in primary producers and consumers at the base of the food web, as well as how these signatures varied seasonally. This research helped establish the use of stable isotopes as an important tool for studying energy flow and trophic structure in aquatic ecosystems.
