The Water Institute is pleased to host a seminar by the second of the RBC Fellows visiting Waterloo this term. Dr. Priyanka Jamwal, Fellow, Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), Bangalore, India, will deliver a seminar titled Rethinking the framework for regulating water quality in urbanizing watersheds.

Water Institute WaterTalks Lecture with Dr. Susan Hubbard

The fourth lecture in the Water Institute’s WaterTalks Lecture Series features Susan Hubbard, Associate Lab Director for Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Senior Scientist, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Dr. Hubbard’s lecture is titled Geophysical approaches for quantifying watershed structure and function.

Student Lunch Lecture Session (free lunch!)

SWIGS will be hosting peer-to-peer lunchtime talks to help facilitate networking and information sharing between students working with water at UW. Graduate students working with water at UW will give a short presentation on their areas of research, followed by questions and general discussion. All are welcome, and a hot lunch and drinks will be provided to presenters and attendees!

UN World Water Day – Water and Jobs

Each year, the student-run World Water Day conference highlights a specific aspect of freshwater selected by UN-water. This year, the theme is “Water and Jobs: a celebration of all the professions and livelihoods connected to water". This year’s World Water Day is hosted at the University of Waterloo, and will highlight university water research and raise awareness of local and global water issues. The event includes poster presentations, water sector networking, booths from the local community, government, and businesses, and a buffet lunch.

The final of the 2015-16 Water Institute WaterTalks lecturers is Dr. Prabhakar Clement. Dr. Prabhakar is a Harold Vince Groome Professor of Environmental Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering at Auburn University. Dr. Clement’s lecture is titled: Worthiness of complex groundwater models for decision making – When should we say enough is enough?

Canadian Water Network: Blue Cities 2016 Conference

Blue Cities 2016 is the inaugural event for the Canadian Municipal Water Consortium of the Canadian Water Network. This event will bring together municipal water leaders, industry partners and topic experts from across Canada and the globe.
Participants will exchange knowledge, strategies and experience to advance resilient solutions that address drinking water, wastewater, stormwater and management of urban watersheds.
