For students interested in learning about sustainability there are several independent opportunities to pursue including studying sustainability, pursuing sustainability credentials in their co-curricular experience, and pursuing awards and credentials.
Study Sustainability
The University of Waterloo has several programs, undergraduate and graduate, with sustainability-oriented learning opportunities. These include, among others, majors and minors that center or include sustainability content, diplomas to add sustainability into a degree program, and options to focus on connections to sustainability within a discipline. The Sustainability Office has information on programs, diplomas, and options. Take a look at undergraduate and graduate programs.
Sustainability Co-Curricular Credentials
Sustainability Leadership Certificate
Some of the most meaningful learning opportunities occur alongside program studies in co-curricular experiences. For example, a student may choose to engage with sustainability through their leadership, learning, personal action, and professional experience activities.
To recognize this commitment to sustainability, the University of Waterloo Sustainability Office developed the Sustainability Leadership Certificate. This co-curricular Certificate allows for recognition of the sustainability actions students are already doing and promotes further understanding and additional sustainability experiences in the future.
Living Planet Leader Program
In the meantime, students can earn a Living Planet Leader designation from World Wildlife Foundation. This is a self-guided designation that recognizes student contributions to a more sustainable campus and community.
Awards and Competitions
There are several opportunities for students to demonstrate their sustainability knowledge and innovative solutions in competitions on campus. Take a look at student awards and competitions to learn more about these opportunities.
If you have other opportunities for students to engage with sustainability during their time at the University of Waterloo, please share that with us.
