The Teaching and Learning Support Collaborative (TLSC) will coordinate and collaborate on academic teaching and learning related issues of significance at the University of Waterloo to promote positive institutional, instructor, and student outcomes.

TLSC Mandate

  • Identify and operationalize the pedagogical and student academic resources, training and support needed by the campus community to advance teaching and learning-related initiatives and address (with appropriate approvals) systemic gaps and barriers in these areas.
  • Coordinate the efficient provision of these supports by pooling resources, leveraging complementary expertise, and reducing the duplication of effort.
  • Expedite multi-unit, coordinated action on emerging pedagogy-related issues and needs, including broader changes in society or technology impacting teaching and learning, by facilitating identification, communication, and collaboration across units and stakeholders
  • Provide leadership, guidance, research and input to various standing and ad hoc committees and governance bodies, as well as proactively inform and influence University directions and initiatives.

Group Composition

The Collaborative includes senior leaders within the Academic Support Units (ASU) below who have the authority to speak definitively on behalf of their units as well as allocate staff, time, and budget to Collaborative activities.

Other ASU representatives may be invited into the conversation as needed.

Meeting Frequency

The full group meets at least once per term to:

  1. share information on their unit’s activities and
  2. identify emergent issues, areas of common interest, and potentially beneficial collaboration.

Full or sub-group meetings will be scheduled in the intervening periods as necessary to move specific projects forward.
