Pedro Miranda

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Pedro Augusto da Silva e Souza Miranda is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Future Cities Institute at the University of Waterloo. He completed his PhD in School of Public Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo in 2026, where his research advanced dynamic consent and continuous data governance frameworks applicable from bedside telemetry to population health intelligence.

Pedro is an accomplished software engineer and health-informatics researcher with 10+ years of combined industry and academic experience. He is the co-founder and CTO of Skopien Canada (skopien.ca), a Kitchener–Waterloo startup launched in 2024 that centralizes data from any ICU bedside monitor—regardless of vendor—into a secure, replay-capable platform that streamlines hospital bed management, clinical analytics, and ethically governed data reuse. Based at Velocity, Skopien is establishing a Vital Signs Monitoring Lab to continuously integrate additional device types; with support from regional partners, the team is pilot-ready at WRHN’s Mid Town ICU to formalize its first customer and generate rigorous operational and clinical evidence.
