The Loran Award program is provided through the Loran Scholars Foundation, in partnership with universities, donors and volunteers across the country. Through a comprehensive selection process, the foundation's goal is to identify and support young people who have the integrity and courage to make difficult decisions, the perseverance to work towards long-term goals, the curiosity to better understand the world around them and the drive to make positive change in their communities.
The Loran Award is valued at up to $100,000 over four years, including mentorship, funding for summer internships and participation in an extensive network of past and present scholars. As a participating school, the University of Waterloo contributes to the Loran Award by providing scholars with a tuition award each term of eligibility. Students may apply on their own or be nominated by their high school. The deadline to apply is normally in mid-October.
